Striving for the right design
It is essential that the Prospects.ac.uk website, our HTML emails, and other related services are easy to use. That's why we are always looking for ways to improve our online services in line with principles set down by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
Structure and navigation
An easy-to-use website doesn't just look good. It has to work well too. Content must be well structured and the whole site should be easy to navigate. On any page of the Prospects.ac.uk website you are never far away from help pages, site maps and contact us pages.

Using Adobe Acrobat (PDF files)
Some documents in this site are stored in Portable Document Format (PDF). This file format is used to store document with complex formatting that the authors would like to preserve (typically text in several columns and mixed with a number of graphics).
To view and print PDF files, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader (or an equivalent PDF viewer) installed: click the link below to download the software.

Adobe provide a free online tool which converts PDF files to text. You may find thsi useful if you use screen reader software or an audio-enabled web browser. To use this service, send the web address (URL) of the PDF document you want to read through the web form (www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlinetools.html). The service will return the document to you as a web page (HTML) or as plain text. Alternatively, you can choose to get it emailed to you as an attachment.

Hold CTRL down whilst selecting individual items via the mouse.
Using the keyboard only- In Microsoft Internet Explorer, after you press Shift + F8, you can use the up and down arrows to move through the items and use the spacebar to select individual items.
- In alternative browsers such as Firefox, use the up and down arrows to move through the items and use the spacebar whilst holding CTRL down to select individual items.
Video/audio
We aim to make our video and audio content accessible to everyone by providing transcripts or captions wherever possible. We sometimes host video or audio provided by third parties, because we think the content may be of interest to users. In these cases we will provide transcripts or captioning if we get them from the creators or owners of the files.
