There are a range of programmes and formats of study you could consider.

Opportunities for undergraduates

Financial help for students wishing to study or conduct research abroad is available from a number of sources.

  • The Erasmus exchange programme provides study opportunities in partnership European universities. Study on an Erasmus scholarship forms part of your degree. To find out more, contact your university Erasmus coordinator.
  • University grants may be available to help fund visits to other institutions or overseas expeditions to support your work on your dissertation.
  • Shell personal development awards offer up to £500 to non-graduating students. Visit the careers section at Shell for more information.

Postgraduate opportunities

Students in a lecture There are a few programmes designed to help finance exchanges for postgraduate students and researchers. You should investigate:

  • small grants offered by your university to help finance exchanges or visits to other institutions;
  • Erasmus grants of up to £3,000 available to postgraduate students (contact your university Erasmus coordinator for details);
  • Fulbright awards to facilitate study and research for postdoctoral fellows in the USA - visit the Fulbright Commission and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).
