“We aim to consult with young people on a regular basis on the development of our service and working with a placement student allows us to do this in a positive and innovative way.” Isobel Grigor, Calman Trust Ltd
Calman Trust work with young people aged 16 to 25 around the theme of independent living skills, enabling young people to make positive choices, achieve their potential and avoid the crisis of homelessness.
2007 was the first year in which Calman Trust employed a placement student, after realising that this was an ideal way to populate their new website.
Communication skills were essential to this placement as the student was trusted to liaise with external organisations and professionals in order to conduct research for the site as well as developing content in a suitable style for the audience.
The result was a well presented website with well researched content and reflected the student’s sensitivity towards the issues addressed on the site. The website has served to attract £36,000 new funding per year to develop the information and advice further.
