Current activities
Work and the initiatives that the NCWE is currently involved in.
The role of NCWE is to promote, encourage and support the development of quality work experience and work-related learning for the benefit of employers and students. Work experience underpins and contributes to career, skills and development choices, which link to work-force development.
NCWE has three main priorities:
- To disseminate information about practice through its website.
- To encourage the development of standards for all forms of work experience activity and work-related learning by working closely with others in the field.
- To increase awareness of growing importance of student employability debate amongst employers large and small, to create more opportunities.
Current activities include:
- Accreditation of employers with the Work Experience Quality Mark.
- The NCWE Awards, an annual programme designed to recognise and highlight current good practice by employers
- Certification Service.
- Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate in the Management of Student Work Experience (MSWE).
- Research e.g. The Barriers to Work Placements in Retail in the South East (funded by SEEDA and SkillSmart Retail).
- NCWE also runs seminars and workshops on relevant topics and has produced materials for use by practitioners.
NCWE works in partnership with others where it can add value to the sector. By doing so, it is hoped that it’s work will lead to influencing and changing attitudes and thus make a contribution to preparing students for the world of work.
