Qualification in work experience

A professional qualification in the management of student work experience is now available.

Developed in association with NASES, NCWE and AGCAS the University of Reading offers a postgraduate certificate and diploma specifically tailored for practitioners in this area.

The overall aim of these qualifications is to provide a course of education and training that will prepare you to undertake effectively the management of student work experience in various sectors (higher education and further education). The programme covers major areas to enhance professional practice in working with students, employers and establishing links between the curriculum and student work experience. The modules include:

  1. The recruitment process
  2. Learning from work experience
  3. Employer relations
  4. The management of human and financial resources (diploma only)
  5. Enhancing the effectiveness of your service: process and information (diploma only)
  6. Marketing the service (diploma only)

Entry is open to all those who are in job shops, student volunteering and placement centres or similar services.

Whilst the qualification is taught at postgraduate level and successful completion will lead to the award of a postgraduate certificate or diploma, applications are welcomed from those without a first degree, although experience and a keen interest in this field are essential.

The programme is delivered through a mixture of distance learning through an online virtual learning environment and some three-day residential courses, giving you an opportunity to mix with others in similar roles and positions while you learn.

NCWE are pleased to offer a bursary to candidates who for financial reason would not otherwise be able to participate in the qualification – further details are available from NASES.
