Making the Most of Work Experience – Tutors Resource Pack is a new guide, which will prepare students and help them get the most out of their work experience. The guide aims to address all issues of work experience, from finding the best places to work, to how to apply oneself whilst on the placement to get the best out of it.

To enhance the student’s learning experience and capability whilst on a placement or other work-based learning, through improved preparation and clear formulation of learning objectives though recording personal and academic development, and to offer a structure for assessment and accreditation.

The pack, in easy to manage CD-ROM format, provides resources for tutors which will enable them to: -

  • Ensure students have clear expectations of the benefits of work experience
  • Enable students to make the most of the opportunities offered by the whole range of work-based learning, including casual employment and voluntary work.
  • Teach students how to identify clear learning objectives and ensure that effective learning takes place
  • Encourage students to record and review their learning though a PDP process or work experience log.
  • Provide a basis for assessment and accreditation of the learning.
  • Develop the skills in students that will help them make formal decisions about future learning and work
  • Help students explain the significance of their work experience to others – whether they are tutors, other students or prospective employers – in discussion, on application forms, on CVs, or during interviews
  • Provide a framework for future learning from work experience.

What’s included in the pack

1 CD-ROM – this business card style CD is used in the same way as any other CD you would use on your computer. The disc contains the Tutors guide and the support material (handouts for your students along with a power point presentation).

The pack also comes with a set of cards that are used in one of the session exercises.
