Case Study

“On completion [of the placement] each of the students reported that they had increased in confidence and had more of an understanding of the role they could play in the work place” Eleanor Campbell, Controlled Therapeutics.

Controlled Therapeutics is a pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organisation offering placement opportunities across a wide range of departments.

Placement students are recruited to undertake projects which the organisation would not have the resources to do otherwise; these have a real impact on the business.

Students are given the autonomy to create their own project plans stating what needs to be done, how this is to be achieved and offer a time frame of when this work is to be completed. Throughout the project they present their progress and findings to their department where they receive support, encouragement and feedback.

One student completely redesigned the website, presented drafts to the senior management team and learnt the importance of feedback from users before making decisions.

Students are given projects to do which the organisation would not have had the resources to do otherwise; these have a real impact on the business.

Students who complete the scheme leave with an appreciation for how their degrees can open up avenues of work they had not previously considered.
The placement students’ support system offers the opportunity for full time employees to gain valuable supervisory experience.
